a bowl of soup. They never give them any other regular rations & so they take these from the natives. This dura our people only use for feeding to the camels. It seems that the Turks were so short of fodder that they had to withdraw their cavalry from down Gaza way & send them up near Jerusalem.
When they started to retreat from Gaza the German officers attached kept all the motor cars for them selves & the trains for their staff & belongings etc. The Turks got angry at this & at several places pelted them with stone & even fired on the Germans.
Only for the Germans among them & the Austrians on the guns they would surrender in hundreds. Tis these Germans & Austrians too who make them put up as much resistance as they do. The German General in command out here could not get on with the Turks & went back to Germany.
On the 2nd day in our new position my mate went down with fever which I also contacted a couple of days later.
