buildings rising on either side which are shops & residences above these perhaps. There seems no lack of foodstuffs especially vegetables, (onions, cabbages, turnips, radishes, etc) oranges, in addition to the rice, nuts, figs, etc always more or less in evidence.
We went all through the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which is beyond my powers of description. As at Bethlehem it was divided into its 3 parts Greek, Armenian & R Catholic.
We saw the Sepulchre, the place where the cross rested, the place where the Centurian watched the crucifixion from & was converted etc. A statue we saw was ornamented with about £150,000 worth of jewellry.
After leaving this church we went along the Via Dolorosa to the Church of "Ecce Homo", which is really a convent of the [?]
Here we saw part of the old Roman road through Jerusalem which has been preserved also some games of the Roman soldiers cut in the floor, one of the nuns there explained all
