every second one sells curios etc of the Holy Land, supposed to be made here. Some of it is, but quiet a lot is made in Birmingham or in Germany.

The old City is entirely enclosed by a wall & has 2 main gates or entrances, the Jaffa Gate & the Damascus Gate. We went in by the Jaffa Gate & came out the same way not seeing the Damascus Gate at all.

There are guards on all the gates & soldiers are not allowed in or out except in parties and an officer or a YMCA guide while the civilians of all nations alike & creeds can go in or out at will.

At the Jaffa Gate is the town of David surmounted by a four faced clock. On entering the old City the first place of importance which we struck was the fine Lutheran church - which was opened by the Kaiser while on his visit here some years ago. Thence we went on through the Bazaar to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
