BURNETT AND WIDE BAY DISTRICT

Previous to January 1854 Burnett & Wide Bay were seperate districts, One Commission is now appointed and the Crown land Commission is vested with Arthur Edward Halloran Engr.

The attention of the Settlers was early directed to those superior runs for Sheep & Cattle  which were the Stations on the main range being less than one hundred & forty miles from Navigation

The character of the Country is much like that in the great Valley of the Hunter [River]. Coal & Limestone are found near Guyndah, also near to the Shipping port at Maryborough. The Burnett River discharges in Harvies Bay and the distance from Maryborough to Sydney by sea may be said to be six hundred miles. Coasting vessels ply between Sydney & Maryborough with Supplies for the Settlers & the wool & other produce of the district is shipped at Maryborough.

The produce of the Burnett is conveyed overland to Maryborough a distance of eighty miles, the Country is described as abounding in minerals. The main line of road through the northern distructs passes Drayton in Darling downs also the stations of the Settlers situated on Boranibo river to Gayndah and from Gayndah to Gladstone at Port Curtis
