Latitude and Longitude of the Northern Gold District. 1854

The Western gold district at present as embracing 1st the gold fields along the [pool] River, the Macdonald, or Alexander, and other sources of the Namoi. 2nd along the sources of the Gwyder on the Rocky River & [Ringera] Creek, both being [can't read] of that [river]. In this district there is an area of about 5000 square miles, in which gold has been found distributed in a grant [can't read] of places, and in which it is prolific at the head of the Pool, on the Wralla, and for fifteen miles along the Bangera & neighbouring Creek, there waters, this dividing range, and the stroke of the formations, run all nearly N.W. or about N. 30 degrees west. The [can't read] [auriferous] region lies along the 151st meridian, & between the parallels 32 degrees & 29 S. The gold of the Wralla is found over & in the districts of [hern llendie] granite, that of the Hanging rock & Pool, as well as that of Bingara, is [appreciated] with the  [transmitted] members of the base of the upper, or the top of the middle Palaeozie Groups with which serpentine charged with chromate of iron, is in close connection, & which have been doubtless, affected by diorite or greenstone. Besides these fields which are being worked, there is a district more northerly than they, along the 152nd meridian, and between the parallels of 30 & 29 degrees S. & which is watered by the north flowing bends of the northern branch of Clarence River, but which has not yet been wrought, except experimentally owing to the abundance of water. This district [compares] the country about Mt Mitchell & the "Rocky River" & the gold is found in association with granite, of the same character as that which constitutes the prunapal formation on the other "Rocky River" or Wralla near Armadale. From 1000 40 1200, square miles of this district may be considered as [can't read] the presence of gold, associated, as in other granite regions, with garnets Papheres & tin ore. This field is also on the east of the Coast range.
