DISTRICT OF FITZ ROY.
 

MYALL & BRICCOLO, SALT BRUSH & PASTURE IN FITZ ROY.

There is an abundant pasture of the finest description both for sheep and Cattle in every part of this district, the natural herbage is in profusion. Flock [s] of Sheep were out in this district during 1847 & 1848 they improved both in Condition & Wool. The Cattle have had [had?] abundance of grass herbage & Water. belts of Myall & Briccolo are on every run with a profusion of Salt brush on which both Sheep and Cattle improve in Condition, the leaves of this Valuable bush are as Salt as brine, and have a bitter taste.

NATIVE FRUITS FOUND IN THE QUANDONG.

The Quandong a native fruit is found all over the bush in this district. This fruit is about the size of an apple, it is red when ripe, and has a skin like a plum, the bush on which it grows is about five feet high.

THE CURRANT BUSH

The bush is found in every locality in the district, and is so named from the similarity of the bush & fruit to the English Currant.
 

THE FIG TREE.

The fig tree is found in Fitz Roy district bearing  fruit which in the season is to be had in many parts of this Country. the fig tree of this district is however surpassed by the "GIGANTIC FIG TREE" of the South, of which one is about 85 feet in Circumference & so formed at the roots that one hundred [?] could be effectually concealed there. 
 

THE LIME TREE
 

 

This is another of the productions to be met with in Fitz Roy district, the lime from this tree although of a small size is very grateful during
summer, when the juice is mixed with water -
 

SALT BRUSH  RHAGODIA HASTATA.

This valuable plant has a spear shaped leaf and is serrated at the edges, the leaves are as salt as brine & is much relished by Sheep, Cattle & Horses.  In the district where the plant is found both Cattle Sheep & Horses are from in Condition. [ indecipherable] made in transporting this valuable plant protecting it first within a fence at the Head Stations of the settlers & afterwards at Stations. This plant is found near Sydney, its value is best known in Bligh, Liverpool, Gwyder, Darling, & Fitz Roy
