DISTRICT OF NEW ENGLAND.

MARBLE, IRONSTONE, LIMESTONE, GRANITE.

Marble of a Superior quality is Said to be found in large Solid Masses on the Malurundi or Macdonald river This river is the Source of the Namoi – The Mountains named the Marble mountains on both Sides of the river near to Mr Flemings run Orrabar, & within five miles of the Big river road – the Colours of the Marble found there, are blood red & white also variegated. Limestone is found on that river, white & grey rock as also Magnesium limestone is found at Bureindi on the Manilla River.

Limestone is found at Pikes Creek on the Sovereign river at Cowall, and in various parts of New England – Ironstone is found in Various parts of the district that found at Wellington Vale is pure & from which a very large per Outage will be found –

Freestone is found at Innar or Eenna on the Macintyre – Granite is every where found on the range which is principally of granite formation to the Northward of the Moonbi Mountains

TIMBER OF NEW ENGLAND

The timber on the main range of New England is inferior for firewood purposes, Peppermint Gum and Iron bark trees being generally found.  On Byron plains and in the Bundarra Country, the boxtree is found on the ridges & the apple tree on the flats and plains – White Mahogany is frequently found –   Drooping trees of the apple, & Dog wood trees are frequently to be found, Pine trees (Calitris) of a large Size are found on the Sovereign & are made use of by the Settlers for Many useful purposes

BURR STONE

Burr Stone is found in Byron & Bundarra Country Said to be of as good in quality for the purposes of grinding as any impoted from France, Whether at any future time any advantage May be taken of these Stones being found there by those interested in grinding wheat into flour in this Colony or whether the Set grinding Machinery can be got Cheaper from foreign Countries remains to be ascertained

THE BUSTARD OR TURKEY.

The Bustard Comminly Called the Turkey are Numerous in New England, they weigh from Sixteen to twenty pounds, their delicacy & flavour resembles the black game of Scotland – The natives Call them Wambelgo – The Turkey is found in all the Northern Districts.
