The melancholy fate of La Perouse & of his unfortunate fellow voyagers was ascertained by Captain Dillon of the Honourable East India Company Ship Research. Both vessels had struck one Stormy night, on a dangerous Coral reef off the Manicolo Islands and had gone to pieces. "Some of the crew had reached the land, and one or two of their number had chosen to remain on the Island, while the rest had unsuccessfully attempted to reach a Civilized Country.
