Camerons Creek Diggings
These diggings were discovered in March or April 1852, and are situated on the Guira River about twelve miles from Armadale in New England. The Guira is one of the principal boundaries of the [Mailiay] & is an eastern water which [rises*] at [Benlomond]. The gold obtained at these diggings is of a beautiful description, darker in colour than that obtained at the Rocky River, and much resembles that from the [moro] & [Taron] fields. During the early working, small nuggets of these pennyweights were found, at present time 1855 heavier gold is obtained, some of the nuggets appear as if chased by the jeweller and [about] beautiful forms.  These specimens are obtained on the ridges at the depth from the surface. The earth is carted & washed at the river on the present improved manner by the [shire]. The [Wollomombi] field is situated about eight miles from the diggings & produces similar gold, both are on the table land of New England & are upon eastern waters, the soil is clay mixed with pebbles which accounts for the nuggetty characters of the gold. The gold from the Rocky River (a western water and situated in a direct line from the [Gurpa] about twenty miles[)] is fine as flour, &  is obtained from a sandy soil which accounts for it having escaped fusion as that of the [Wollomombi] & Guira gold, little of the Rocky River gold is to be found larger than the pin heads.
