SUPPLY OF HORSES FOR INDIA

New England 6th October 1857.

Sir

I was much pleased with your letter of 15th ultime which appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald regarding a Supply of Horses from Australia for India.

Allow me to suggest to you that an Officer be sent from Sydney to Armadale for the purpose of purchasing Horses

The Northern Districts have been less drained of suitable horses for India than any portion of Australia

A Considerable number of very Serviceable horses Might therefore be odtained particularly from the Districts of Richmond, Clarence, Macleay, and New England. My Knowledge of these districts promps me to address you on this Subject and to point out where a Supply may be obtained

An officer Stationed for Some time in Armadale would invite the Settlers and owners of horse Stock to forward to this Central point where every Convenience for the purchaser and for the disposer from these districts is at hand

I may mention to you that a branch of the Joint Stock Bank and a Newspaper is established at Armadale
