NORTES REGARDING THE WESTERN WATERS.

THE SEVERN RIVER

The source of this river is at Benlomond Mountain, it is joined in its Course by numerous Creeks from the great Northern range, the occupants of Stations on the upper part of this river Confine their attention to Sheep farming. This river is joined by Frasers Creek, a Mile & a half below Egerton.

Frasers Creek and its numerous branches have Caused many to Misname the Severn river, & to Confuse this Creek with that river ------ The Severn joins the Macintyre betwenn the runs of Innar & Trigamon.

THE SOVEREIGN RIVER

This river takes its rise from the great Northern range at Tenterfield, & is joined by the Mole river a Southern branch, & Pikes Creek a Northern branch at Mengola, from the source to this station, the river is occupied by Sheep farmers, below this Station the valuable Cattle Stations Commence, the Soversign joins the Macintyre on the run of Mr Dight at Boonal

MOONI RIVER

This river has a run of about one hundred miles, it has its Source in the North, runs paralell to the South with the Balonne, & joins the Barwan at Burren Burren a Station occupied by Mr Eckford, there are numerous Cattle Stations Situated on this river, the main Northern line of road passes up this river to the Balonne at St Georges Bridge, to the Maranoa & to the Lower Condamine at Surat.

CONDAMINE RIVER

The Condamine rises at Mount Lindesay in the great Northern range, the occupants of this river for upwards of two hundred miles from its Source Confine their attantion to Sheep farming, at present Lower Condamine is chiefly taken up as Cattle runs, at Surat the river turns to the Soutn west, it is there Named the Balonne

BALONNE RIVER

This river is taken up & occupied on every Side from St Georges Bridge to Surat. The Country through which it runs is admirably adapted for Cattle grazing, the main line of road from the Southern Settlements passes up this river to Surat, & out to the Maranoa Country which has been Sometime occupied

MARANOA RIVER

This river rises in that Cluster of Mountains discovered by Sir Thomas Mitchell in 1846, & flows in a South Westerly direction  Numerous runs have been taken up & occupied on this river. the pasturage is of the richest description, this river is chiefly occupied as Cattle Country.
