NOTED REGARDING THE WESTERN WATERS.

THE WARREGO RIVER

This river is situated to the westward of the Maranoa, there is no Settlement on this water the country is reported as being favourable for Cattle runs, The great distance from the Coast, & from the Settled districts will Continue for Some time To prevent occupation.

NARRAN RIVER

This river was Settled upon in 1847,   There is a never failing Supply of water, few Stations are found on the Narran ------ The distance from the Settlement on the Barwan at Pockateroo, is almost fifty miles. This river terminates in the Narran Swamp.

COGOON RIVER

This river rises at Mount Abundance it has a Short run, & joins the Balonne. The [principal?] Station on this river is Situated within a Mile of Mount Abundance, and is occupied by Allan Macpherson Esqr at present as a Cattle run, formerly as a Sheep Station. The evil disposition of the blacks in that Country Compelled Mr Macpherson to remove his flocks, Seven whites were killed here, & a flock of one thousand valuable ewes were driven off and destroyed by the Blacks. This Country is admirably adapted for either Sheep or Cattle, abundance of grass & herbage, with Salt bush wild fetch, Myall & Briccolo, & is an excellent fattening Country for stock of every description ------
