MISCELLANEOUS NOTES

I may now state that I wrote an article in my work on the Northern districts of New South Wales on the subject of applying Electricity to sheep diseased with Shab to cure that disease, as early as the year 1846, and during that year, or early in 1847, an article written by me appears in the same Volume on applying either Electricity or Galvanism to Cure that disease.
Volume of 1851 on the Production and Resources of the Northern Districts of New South Wales. These writings were frequently exhibited by me to many of the flock owning in the Northern districts for the purpose of inducing experiments to be made to whom this interesting subject has been for many years well known. This last Volume was transmitted by me to Sydney in January 1853 and was exhibited there
to several of the literate of that City, and by their solicitation forwarded to London in March same year, and as the disease has again broke [broken] out in this Colony this year 1854. I now make use of my Copies of these writings referring to this disease and transcribe them in this Volume on the Production and Resources of
the Northern and Western Districts of New South Wales.
Heretofore the destruction of the Shab insect on Sheep in Australia has been Confined to Mecourial [mercurial?]  preparations, and to Caustics, to Arsenic, Bluestone, turpentine, Sulphuric Acid, Sulphur mixed with oil and other nostrums and mixtures, many of these containing ingredients neutralizing the effects of the other. These were destructive to the steeps connected with the destruction of the Shab insect.

ON APPLYING EITHER ELECTRICITY, OR GALVANISM, TO SHEEP DISEASED WITH SHAB, VULGARLY CALLED SCAB. TO CURE THAT DISEASE.

This idea is a novel one, it has occurred to me that this application will be attended with success
on Sheep diseased with Shab. In this Case the principle is the same as is in the cure with mecourial  [mecurial?]  preparation viz to destroy the Acarius {and the eggs} which may be effected either by Electricity or Galvanism without injuring the health of the Sheep and may be stated thus either Electricity or Galvanism can be applied to sheep in such strength as to destroy the Shab insect, and this by assistance of the perfect instruments at present in use,
