The Ovens and Omeo Gold Mines
[The] mines are situated on or near the Australian Alps, by many they are considered the most promising of the [Australian] fields. It is stated that on the average of the year, the yield, compared to the members at work is quarter than at any other field, and it is believed that the precious metal is differed over the whole of the ranges. The Australian Alps diggings are the "Wet diggings" which can be worked advantageously only from January to July, and even then they require [more] of some Capital and energy & the combination of strong parties. The great back of the people working at these diggings have apparently settled down at them, they are not there to snatch at what they can get and go away with it, they have more gold digging at the Ovens, a [can't read] profession, and having done so, they are contented with [life] gains than those who are "chance customers" at the gold fields. Being every day there, they can choose their time to work and their time to be idle; being this home, they can replenish their coffers when exhausted without any expeditions of labours, time or money.
Extraordinary Title of Gold in Matrix 1867
From the lows of quality obtained from a claim on [Nattle] gully reef the total yield of gold was five hundred & thirty three ounces
Andersons Crek [Creek] and Plenty Ranges
The former of these places was the first in the colony of Victoria where gold was found in any quantity lately again this field has attracted the attention of the diggers and hundreds [more] scattered over the field and the neighbouring ranges and creek, and near is the [Plenty]. The accounts for, as there diggings are still favourable. The [loyalties] where gold is found are from sixteen to twenty five miles to the east and north each from Melbourne.
