GOLD DISCOVERED IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA IN NOVEMBER OR DECEMBER 1849.

The following appeared in number of the South Australian Mining Journal.

"Unless backed by the Credit of so many of the most honourable names of the Colony, we should hesitate to declare what we believe to be the extent of the gold deposits of South Australia.  We discover, for the first time, that for nearly two years the progress of exploration has been going on silently and cautiously; and that the result is the formation of a Company Composed, as we have said, of the most of our best Colonial names, who have this day publicly announced & guarantee the sober reality - the fact - that gold in large quantity exists in the soil & alluvial deposits made by the rivers in South Australia
We ask our readers to read the advertisement in the preceeding [preceding] Column, and be assured that facts are precisely as they are stated; nay far more wonderful & encouraging than are yet revealed - In a few days we shall be enabled to speak more plainly"
The above was taken from a Sydney Newspaper Dated December 1849 -
