GOLD STATISTICS.

STANDARD TROY WEIGHTS.

 4 grains make .......................1 carat.
 6 carats or 24 grains .............1 Pennyweight.
20 Pennyweights ....................1 Ounce.
12 Ounces...............................1 Pound.
25 Pounds ..............................1 Quarter.
300[?] Pounds ........................1 Hundred weight.
20 Hundred............................. 1 Ton of gold or
                                                   Silver.
Gold, Silver, Jewels, Amber, precious stones, Electuaries, and all liquids are weighed by the weight.  The proportion of a pound troy, to a pound Avoirdupois, is a 14 to 17.  The former Containing 5960 Grains,  and the latter 7000.

The standard for gold Coin is 22 Carats of fine gold, & 2 Carats of Copper melted together, for silver is 11 ounces 2 dwts of fine silver, & 18 dwts of alloy which is now coined in Sixty six shillings instead of Sixty two Shillings as formerly.
ADVANCE ON GOLD BY THE BANKS Forty shillings per ounce is advanced  on gold by the Sydney and Melbourne banks & bills drawn on England against gold in the advance are discounted at 10 per cent, which at the rates paid for gold would leave the shipper a portion from one to two shillings per ounce.

Exchange on London.  Drafts against gold nominally per cent.  Discounts, but no shipments
are being made through the banks, for the best of all reasons,  that it [doesn't?] pay.  Freight ½ per cent.
