Copy of a letter from Lieut. Col.Robbins of the Indian Army.

Sydney 28th October 1857

Sir

Your communication to Mr Gideon T. Lang Secretary of the Association formed to assist the Government of India in procuring a Supply of Dragoon Horses, has been delivered to me, and I have to thank you Sincerely for the patriotic interest which you have evinced in the Success of my Mission.

As soon as I have made arrangements, notice will be Sent of the time and place at which I will purchase and receive the horses of your district.

I am in receipt of your favor bearing date 6th ultime and have to return you my thanks for the Many Valuable Suggestions and kind offers you make.  I shall be happy to See you when in that district

Association to assist the East India Government in obtaining Cavalry Horses from 12th Decr 1857

I have been directed by the Committee to request that the Horse Breeders & owners of horses will Communicate information in reply to the following queries

1st   Have you any broken in horses to dispose off of the description appended, & how many?

2nd   Have you any unbroken of the Same description?

3rd   At what place, & how soon could you have them ready for inspection?

4th   Specify (Seperately) how many more you Could Supply, in Case of their being taken.     The description (so far as the Committee are at present informed): – Horses from 14 hands 2 inches; to 15 hands 2 inches; age from four to seven years old; well bred & capable of carrying from 12 to 16 Stone.  The unbroken horses must be handled So far as it be led.
