NATIVE FRUIT, AND BULBUS ROOTS FOUND IN THE BUSH IN THE DISTRICT OF NEW ENGLAND

The Gooseberry ( native name Moonyan)

This Gooseberry is rather larger than an English pea & grows on a vine in the Open fields, the Colour is light green, the Skin is transparent & thin — The taste of this berry when ripe is exactly that of the English gooseberry. The Seeds are proportionately Small, & is ripe in harvest or reaping time, that is during the month of February. On Byron Plains in this district I have found this fruit as large as a Musket ball.

The Lambean

This fruit is green before ripe & when ripe is brown — It has the taste of a gooseberry, with Seeds Somewhat Similar, it is about an inch long, and grows on a Vine and is generally found among rocks. The Lambean is ripe in February.

EMBONGATTAS.

There are three sorts of this fruit viz, The Peipian, which grows on a bush. The Paera which grows on a Vine with a wide leaf like the Peipian, and the Embongatta which grows on a prickly bush or vine in the open ground Clear of trees.                   The fruit of the Peipian is as large as a Musket ball, as also that of the Paera.

Embongattas are as large as buck Shot

Embongattas, Peipian &, Paera, have round Stoned Seed, one Stone in each and are ripe during the Month of January

Embongattas when ripe are of a brown colour. The Peipian & Paera are always green. Embongattas are Sometimes found as large as the Peipian or Paera.

THE EEELWARRA or Native Raspberry

This fruit is every where found in the bush, The leaf is similar to the bramble berry bush leaf found in Scotland. The berry is Similar & the taste is the Same, there is no perceptable difference except in Colour, the bramble being a Shining jet black, and the Eeelwarra a bright Scarlet. This fruit is ripe during January,
