MARANOA DISTRICT

Oct 1854.  COURTS OF PETTY SESSIONS AT THE TOWNSHIP OF CONDAMINE

His Excellency the Governor General has appointed CONDAMINE, on the South Side of the Lower Condamine, about four miles below Terriboo, to be a place for holding events of Petty Sessions.

The district of Maranoa promises to become one of the most productive of the northern districts this country lies immediately to the westward of Darling and is watered by the Lower Condamine [Balonne, Moonee, Maranoa, [indecipherable]  besides numerous creeks,  There are considerable scrubs along these waters, generally there is a belt of fine open forest of from two to ten miles in breath thickly covered with grass, salt bush, and herbage the finest of pasture, [ indecipherable ] are situated  to the north west of this district   Sir Thomas Mitchell describes these Downs as the finest pastoral country he has ever seen - the climate suitable for cattle and so temperate from the elevation that sheep will not suffer in weight of fleece  New roads have been opened up with the Southern districts with Darling and Moreton.
