THE INDIGO PLANT OF AUSTRALIA

This plant is much relished by Cattle, when they are recently placed upon a run where it grows, they improve in Condition, if they are allowed to remain long where it abounds it is Said to be injurious.  Horses are remarKably fond of the leaves & young Shoots of the indigo plant.  On Some runs where this plant grows the herds are Said to be diseased by the fluke, & this takes place even in elevated Country & where the run is dry & Sound & it has been observed that where Cattle are bred on these runs, that they do not fatten, but remain in tolerable Condition during the whole year.   The leaves of the indigo plant are of a blueish green the Stalks are dark red.
