POSITIONS IN THE INTERIOR WHER RUNS GET OVERSTOCKED DURING DRY AND PARCHED SEASONS

In new country sheep are capable of being run in larger flocks than in those places which have been longer stocked the natural herbage on which sheep thrive & increase in numbers, has not disappeared & in consequence of the grass not having been eaten off there is a better selection open for pasture. Country suitable for grazing Cattle, either for breeding or fattening stations, need not be so select as for sheep runs.

CHARACTER OF THE GREAT VALLEY OF THE HUNTER -

The early settlers of the great Valley of the Hunter
were never ceasing in their praises of the country.
the herbage of grass were in abundance even to profusion, and the crops were never failing. Occupations for the short period of less than fifteen years, informed the settlers of the pastoral character of that country, which has long since been abandoned as unprofitable as a grazing district.
In order to examine the positions in the interior where runs yet overstocked during dry & parched seasons I must state the date of occupation the general size of the runs, and the number during different periods of occupation.

OCCUPATION OF FLEECE AND CATTLE GRAZING COUNTRY IN THE NORTHERN DISTRICT OF LIVERPOOL PLAINS.

Settlers began to occupy these districts from the Bathurst & Mudgee side as early as 1827 & 1828,
and by Settlers from the Goulburn & Hunter side about the same time -
