LIVERPOOL PLAINS DISTRICT

ON CLEARING LAND FOR AGRICULTURAL PURPOSES

It is generally Considered better to Clear the land of timber for agricutural purposes than to take advantage of the open plains.    The Crops are Considered to be certain from the land formerly timbered, although I must Say I have Seen excellent Crops of wheat taken from the fenced in plains with timbered land adjoining.     One principal advantage is gained in the plains the [?] fencing Completes the work while on timbered land an encumberance is in clearing & Stump[?] and in years after annoyed with abominable roots while ploughing;     Altogether if the plain is of moderate extent & Skirted with wood, it may with propriety be used particularly if the Soil is Suitable and Situated near to the head Station, Much of this is done in New England with good returns & I hope elsewhere in New South Wales.

WATERING PLACES IN LIVERPOOL PLAINS DISTRICT

ON THE ROAD TO NEW ENGLAND

To travellers this is a matter of much interest, & this is a question generally asked on leaving a house "Where is water next to be had", it however frequently happens to be met with in this thinly populated district where no house is near, I have therefor noted the Supply on the main line of road to New England.

A well of water is found over the Liverpool range of Mountains in Doughboy hollow.      Water is to be found in a Lagoon Situated to the west of what was formerly named the Seven Mile Station or the Blacksmiths       Again water is to be found at Courindi Loders Station again at what is Known as the Yellow water holes this water has never Known to fail in the most Severe drought of any Season     A well has been dug at Quoipolloy Creek on the right hand going to New England.

Awell of never failing water is to be found at Carobobella Monutand and the next Supply is at Tamworth on Peel River    from Tamworth Springs of water are to be found at the foot of the Moonbi Mountains on Halls Creek one mile from the flag Stones ---- the traveller having ascended these Mountains will find himself on the table land of New England in a different Climate & with a plentiful Supply of grass & water in every direction
