Gold Diggers Tools

The Cradle

The washing stuff is first put into the hopper which is a small box with a bottom of sheet view with sound holes [can't read] in it half an inch in diameter. The dipper is then employed with one hand to convey water and pour it over the washing stuff. While the gold washer employs the left hand in resting the [cradle] by the top of the working handle, this operation allows the washing stuff to [pass] down upon the slide from whence it finds its way to the tail of the Bridle leaving the gold dust & nuggets behind detained by the bars on the slide and bottom of the cradle as [can't read] by the last detention the tail of the cradle. The rockers move upon an view pin fixed in the centre which is sunk in a reversed rocker placed underneath the cradle which [can't read] initiates the motion and renders the labour [can't read] to the gold worker.
Besides the above tools the digger uses a pick axe, Crowbar, [Maul], Line Buckets, long knives for scraping the gold dust from the surface of the bed rock and for [peaking] gold from the crevices also a brush shaped similar to a crumb cloth or a carriage brush which also cleans the gold dust from the bed rock
