Monday 21 January [1918]
Up at 5 a.m. Breakfast & then paraded the Squadron. To the station in squadron car. Entrained & left Cirencester at 8 a.m. Got to Southampton about 1 p.m. Marched to docks & reported to Embarkation Officer. Had some lunch at a poisonous café on the docks. Embarked about 4 p.m. Had a busy time as I was O.C. troops (about 1400) on board. Lots of Americans who are splendid fellows. Arrived Havre [Le Havre] about midnight. Went to bed about 1.30 to get a bit of sleep.
