Thursday 9 May [1918]
Fine warm day. Up at 8. Off on O.P. at 8.45. Had rotten luck in a scrap with 7 Albatros as my gear failed & Claye's Scraff mounting refused to lock. Lost many splendid chances. Followed to our lines by 3 Huns who shot at us all the way. Managed to spoil their aim by stunting. Poor old 4630 has to have another new plane & centre section!! Went up after lunch to test Lewis guns. Off at 5 p.m. on O.P. down south. Had no scraps – the air was full of our machines. Played a rubber of bridge after dinner.
