Thursday 3 January [1918]
Up at 8.30. A nice fine day. In the morning did some fighting practice & also some firing. In afternoon went up with a formation to 15000 feet. The formation was awful! I will have to do something desperate unless they improve. One machine failed to return but heard later that it had landed all right at Chippenham. No lights in the mess as a fool on an RE8 who was zooming about the aerodrome carried away the cables. Played a rubber of bridge after dinner.
