Thursday 15 August [1918]
Up at 7.30 & to 8 Mass & Holy Communion. Worked all the morning on progress reports. After lunch went by car to Witney. Tested a pupil from 24 T.S. & found that his instruction had been most disgraceful. Flew my new Bristol to Oxford about 7. It is a most priceless bus. Back to Wing & had a bite of dinner & rushed down to Port Meadow. Left at 8 in the Bristol and landed at Northolt at 8.30. Caught the 9 train to Marylebone & taxi to 5 Marble Arch. Found Maurice with Aunty & Mary. They are all most wonderfully brave. Aunty had the most glorious letter from dear old Bryan, written last year before the push and left with Scrivener in case he was killed. Talked till 12.30 & then to bed.
