Friday 12 April [1918]
Slept in till 10. A glorious clear fine day. Early lunch & off at 1.15 on O.P. Attacked 15 Huns near Bois de [du] Biez. I shot one out of control but my gear went "dud". Later on saw an L.V.G. [Luftverkehrsgesellschaft aeroplane] & chased it to Seclin & shot it down in flames from 5500 ft. Got heavily "archied" coming back. Sgt. Johnson & Sgt. Holmes each crashed a Hun. Savage crashed another. Parry, Campbell, & Knights each shot one down out of control. A most successful patrol – all our machines returned. Went up & tested my gear after tea. Wells has got pleurisy & gone to hospital – rotten luck. Played bridge after dinner with C.O., Claye & Davis. Huns came over & dropped some bombs.
