Monday 13 May [1918]
Blowing hard & raining all day. Up at 11. To the aerodrome & did various jobs. After lunch the Colonel came & sent for me. I was utterly surprised when he told me that I am going to be sent back to England in a few days!! To leave the old squadron just now is going to be a very very big wrench & I feel it an awful lot. I was realigning my sights at the moment the Colonel sent for me! It is very rough luck for old Claye if he has to fly with a new pilot after doing such a lot of work together. Staton is taking over dear old "B" Flight from me. The C.O. is very decent about it all. Played some bridge after dinner & yarned till about midnight.
