Wednesday 21 August [1918]
Up at 8 & played a set of tennis with Price before breakfast. Worked all the morning & till 4 p.m. on the Progress Reports. After tea flew to Witney & tested three pupils. One of them – Grant – though alleged to be ready for Marske put me into two spins. He was trained in 24 T.S.!! Got back to the Wing at 9 p.m. for dinner. I have lost "Girlie". I left her at Port Meadow & she had gone when I got back.
