Letters
From: Bryan, Maurice, Mrs. Vidal & Margaret, all written before I went on leave.
Cables from Mother & Father & the Mullinses.

Wednesday 3 April [1918]
Up at 9.30. Went round to "Signals" & rang up the squadron for a tender. Back to Hotel & had breakfast & waited till 12 when the tender came. Got our kit on board & drove to aerodrome. Much to talk over with the C.O. Robinson & Wells are the only survivors of my old flight! James & Hay are missing. Symons is wounded. Cleary & a new observer missing. Arthur wounded, Hilton wounded, Keith wounded. Everyone has had a rough time as they have been doing nearly all "trench strafeing". In spite of losses the squadron has done splendidly and is very cheery. I'm awfully sorry about James & Hay. My old bus is still going splendidly! Purdom & Chambers and Staton & Gordon have done very well – lots of Huns. I took up my machine for a test before tea & cleaned the gun after. Played bridge after dinner. To bed late.
