Friday 12 July [1918]
Up at 8.30. My 23rd Birthday! Breakfast & Roll Call at 9. Toiled all day in the office as usual. I hear now I am to go away & Collier will take over. I'm rather sorry not to see it through now that I've got so far. Dinner at 8.30. After dinner Barnett & I decided to fly the Pup. I did my first solo & thoroughly enjoyed it. To bed early.
