Friday 17 May [1918]
Up at 9. Packed after breakfast. The squadron did two shows. Purdom got a couple of Huns out of control. In afternoon had a last wander round the flight & said good bye to all the men. The C.O. very decently gave Claye & me the car to go in. Said good bye to the C.O. – he was very decent. Claye came with me in the car to Etaples & we had a farewell dinner at the Club. Met Jim Dixon there – he is in hospital. Went to the station at 9.40. Said goodbye to old Claye at 10 & he went off. I am frightfully cut up leaving the dear old show. It is rotten for old Claye. The train finally left about midnight. Arrived Boulogne about 2 a.m. & went to the Louvre & took a room. Had some coffee & to bed.
