Wednesday 30 January [1918]
Woke up at 2.30 a.m. to find we were in St. Omer. Saw R.T.O. [Railway Transport Officer] & turned out all the men. Started work about 3.30 a.m. unloading the train. Awfully heavy work as the turntable was too small & we had to drive the lorries onto a small truck to get them up to the ramp. Got everything unloaded by 7 a.m. Got the men's rations cooked & saw them all issued before going off to breakfast. Reported to I.A.D. Up to the aerodrome & found Major Smith. All Fifteen machines have arrived. James of my flight has crashed but is coming on later. Savage crashed & his passenger is dead. Lunch at the Vincent & dinner at the Grand. To my billet to bed early.
