Thursday 11 April [1918]
Up at 7. Stood by all day from 7.30 a.m. waiting for orders. Very "dud" up till lunch time but fine in the afternoon. This "standing by" all day is frightfully annoying. It would be far more satisfactory to do a job of work. Suddenly ordered to do an O.P. at 5.15 p.m.!! Very misty. Landed at 7.45 p.m. Arnison, Gibbons, Chambers & Purdom came to dinner with us. Played bridge after.
