Tuesday 28 May [1918]
Up at 9. Letter from Major Smith saying that poor old Claye & Clarke are missing from their first show together. I am awfully cut up about it & do so hope they are prisoners. This is a very great knock to me. He also said the General has recommended me for a job in Egypt. In the morning old Bryan went off & we all walked to the station & saw him off. After lunch Maurice & I went out for a sail & had a rather disastrous time. After tea we played a round of golf. Played cards in the evening. The Huns have renewed their offensive mainly from Bethune to Rheims.
