Dear Mother,
I think that you had a letter from me a few days ago, but if not this one will do I suppose. It will not be a long one, as it is cold where we are at present, for we are on guard at the railway station. Egypt is the supposed hot place; it might be so in the summer time, but not in the winter time, for we have wind and rain pretty often; this part may be different from the other places. We are still carrying on with the drill (same as we had at Liverpool) which I might say is rather stale now; it is to keep our latest reinforcements up to the standard. On Saturday afternoon we had a big parade, all the first division taking part it, that is up to the sixteenth battalion. General Murray took the salute as we marched by in column of platoons; I can say myself that is was a grand display. Heading the column was the field artillery; transport, and then the "Gravel Crushers" whose bayonets flashed
in the sunlight. Our camp is growing larger
and larger every day, as we are continually
getting returned men, and reinforcements.
