Last night Fritzy & Co bombarded us again for about three hours, which made it very uncomfortable for us, as he disturbed our afternoon tea, and tea; it did no go to waste anyhow. In the attached attack the Major lost his batman, he was wounded in eight places with a coal box (shell). When we were relieved he asked me if I would help him so I said certainly; now I have another mate who is also a batman, we both cook meals and do no work; but we do a lot of work around the fire. My past experiences (cooking on the Peninsula) helps me a lot indeed,
for they leave a clean dish every meal, they must enjoy it. How are you all at home? Raheen is O.K. I suppose. France is a snifter place, but it would be better if the war would come to some kind of a close. This coming 13th September will be my second yera in the trenches, that is saying a lot, as there is very few of us who have been away so long from home, in this battalion. Tell Rupe & Dad to stay behind as we have tons here, in fact to many they dont know what to do with them. Well this will have to do just now as I have not written to anyone for about two weeks. Has Rod written to you yet? Am writing to Dad, Gin & Rupe, also Raheen. Shall close now hoping this finds you all O.K. as I am so.
I remain
Yours sincerely
Rex
