I could never do what he does.  Mother must be in an awful fix.  I've a heap of letters for him from home which have had all kinds of remarks on them - killed, wounded, hospital and returned to Australia. I gave him up as killed but - well he is quite safe now, they dont care how the letters go.

Fancy Winn's block being burnt out.  What does Dad want to come away for has'nt he been to Egypt, Engld etc. Dont encourage him especially when Rupe is coming back again, the goat.

What did you think of the p.cs.? This is to do you this time as I am in a terrible hurry, the first time I've used a pen since April 30th 1915. My second birthday in the trenches in Sept. Over twelve months ago since I landed at Anzac.  Am quite an old soldat now compre.  You heard of the great push well our division took part in it too, our company was subjected to a fierce bombardment
