prefer London, it is a tremendous big place and will take some time to see part of it alone.
There is leave to be given again, so our Battalion notice board says.
By the time this reaches you I may be over there, or I may be back here again. The Peninsular men are to go first, (only fair too) so I am standing well for a place in first, second, or third; yes may be 4th! Major Anderson my boss, is standing well also, so if he takes me we will have a snifter time; of course I could go by myself too. You would be surprised to hear that I only know a few men in this battalion, and they are mostly old hands; although I know my section.
The last few days we have been giving the huns pepper in powdered form, he thinks we are going to attack, so he hails [?] great chunks of iron over which go off with loud explosions, but on the other hand, rarely hurts a soul.
