Anyhow we did not go ashore, no, but we were all ready.  It is very funny the way the niggers sell their goods, start the price at two shillings, & bring it down to one shilling; everything they sell comes up in little baskets, held by a rope. They sell a lot, for the way they push the sale is something more than the English can do. You ought to see them dive for money but not for pennies, only for silver money, too muchee sharks, they say.  We had plenty of drill on the way over, and I can say this, my coat is far too small across the chest, & bread basket, so that will show you how I am growing. Have been to Port Suez, where all the shipping enters the canal, not a bad little place ony two many dirty niggers (scavengers).  When we went into the docks to get off, the blackies all came to see soldiers, and you should have seen them running after all our old clothing, which we threw ashore. The police are funny too, if the niggers were too close to the boat, the police would run after the darkies with canes, and hit them anywhere, as hard as they could, but I only saw one little kid cry, he got hit on the knuckles.  It was pretty hot going from Port Suez to Helipolis by train, but I was one of the lucky
