bayonet, for as soon as we charge they run frightened, won't stand up to the cold steel. They have got some pretty nurses at the hospitals, & they are simply medicine for the men, a good face, & always joking. Plenty of comfort in the hop hospitals, for they were once hotels, the palace hotel is the main hospital, it is the biggest hotel in the world, except one and that is in the U.S.A. They say that we will be in camp here at least three months, but I hope the 4th Batt want reinforcements in a few weeks. Once our fellows get over the heights of Krithia all will be over with the Turks, for our boys are going up hill all the time. The 18th/19th/& 20th Battalions came into camp to-day, and I hear that they will be in action in about two weeks time. I have made up my mind to buy you, & Gin something on this side. Our boat was unlucky, for we might have gone to Bombay like all the other troopships; some have anything from five to ten days there. You missed some good things through us not calling in there, for you know the things are very cheap there, especially silk.
