Egypt
​June 13th 1916

Dear Mother,
Am taking another chance to write to you for we are going Somewhere, so you need not worry if you dont hear from for a few weeks. France seems the way we are going by all the rumours going about.  Our boys are making a great name for themselves in France, the French people seem to be very generous too. I will be glad when I leave this hole, in fact everyone will be, for the flies and heat are unbearable especially the former. How are you all at home? Did you ask Dad about the money I asked him to forward to me; if he sent it to Auntie Florrie I could get it when I get there, as its a cert I'll get there, and I'll want plenty of cash.  Most of our boys have from eight to ten day leave, so I will want a fly round. Rupes friends wrote and asked me to go Scotland when I went there, so I wont miss a good chance. Cameras will not be allowed in France now, all of them if seen will be confiscated. Rod is still going strong, he has had pack drill twice since he joined us up, but he seems to be putting fat on through it.  I suppose you have heard all about the Great Naval battle ending in victory for us.
