Still going as well as ever but am just starting to feel the cold weather.

We are at present behind the firing line "Somewhere in France" and shall be glad to be away from it as quickly as possible for it is worse than a stockyard, the mud is up to our knees, sometimes we get bogged and have to be pulled out.  The first time we arrived in the present zone we were obliged to camp amidst the mud & slush, and to improve matters it rained, also we awoke with ice on the blankets.  Our sister battalion arrived here a few days ago from --- it cheered every one up to see them, everybody had smilining faces, and were from time to time shaking hands with old time mates, but worse luck most of the old hands have vanished.
