again fot them. Over here we get the London papers a day later than the Londoners, and that is quick enough. I can talk French a bit now, in fact make little sentences up, so you can see I'm not at all behind.  We are living in a barn at a farmhouse in a little village, and not far away from the pills either.  Have had a few letters from you and all at home, also some from other people, but no papers from home yet as they are not sorted out; tell Rupe I had a letter from Joss; (Gee) she lives at Lings now.  If I have not time in future Il just send a field Card.  We could not write from July the 10th up till now.  The French seem very confident about the war being over by September. It will be my second birthday in the trenches if I'm in at that date. Have you come accross a girl Shaw yet?  Please remember me to the Andersons, am writing in a day or so. Must close now
as I have to write to Dad & others, so give my love to all, and excuse writing, accept my love and best wishes; tell Rupe to have a cold this time. Parcels can come again if you like. Good bye

Your affectionate brother
 Rex

Rod went to hospital in Ismalia [Ismailia] suffering with a sore throat.  He should have written ere this.
