Dear Mother & Dad,
Have just arrived at Fremantle after a pretty heavy sea, and after being seasick on Sunday. I looked out for you when we were going, but did not sea you; we got a cold send off at Sydney, only launches to see us off. We were all over her ("Karoola") when we left. I was on a lifeboat, then on the bridge, then I went here, and there. At the Heads the "Captain Cook" gave us a snifter send off, also the "Dunmore" which we met. On the way we passed the "Katoomba" sister ship to us, also the old German Australian liner Apolda, and some other tub, and lastly the "Osterley", which was to take our mails aboard but was too rough. Our boat was taking seas galore aboard, going all over the bridge, but only after we passed "Gabo". Stopped outside Melbourne ("Queenscliff") and dropped two Doctors, and a sick man the boat that took them gave us a cock-a-doodle-doo. Every morning when we get up we have coffee and biscuits also going to bed. This is our daily routine. Get up at six, coffee & biscuits; 6.45 a bit of drill; 7.45 breakfast; 10 fall in for
