Dear Mother,
Since writing to you last we have had a very trying experience coming through the desert. We packed up all our kits on March 27th and left about half past six, after having a cup of tea and a snack to eat. I left just two hours and a half after the others had gone, as I went with the camels who carried all the officers furniture etc; we caught up to the battalion at dinner time. We started (camel corps) a good while before the battalion did,and did not stop until our place of calling was reached; (Kassah) a station sixteen miles from Tel-el-kebir.
