My Dear Mother,
A few lines this time as I am in a hurry to catch the Australian mail which closes in a few hours time.  Had your big newsy letter of the 29th Oct.
also one from Dad & Yvonne (Xmascard).  I was so pleased to receive such a lovely long letter from you; I will try and do likewise.  

Rupe will be far better off in the artillery but it is not necessary for him to be in the same lot as Pat.

Auntie Edie wrote me a good letter which I also received a few days ago.  No need to worry about me as I am still going strong - Rod has been
admitted into hospital with some complaint or other, but only a slight case
