You must have received a shock when you had a wire from Rod from Melbourne. it's a wunder to me that the military authorities did not send you word of some kind.
Saw Phelps the last time we came out of the line; he was having a drink at the Y.M.C.A. coffee stall when I met him. After we had finished he gave me a lift right to our huts - he is a driver in the engineers. Another chap whom I saw was young Lyons from the Spit, he had only just come over from Blighty.
Am sending you some papers per post, so look out for them.
We have just been for a march (full pack & steel helmets) to be reviewed by our General; there were a few hills to climb but we did it in good time (some curses were hurled at the general when we were climbing these.
