get tobacco and cigarettes from the "Evening" News & "Sun", of course sent from some Lady or Gentleman through them. Enclosed in same are post cards with name & address of sender, so as we can acknowledge receipt of same. I dont smoke, so I always write & tell them so; but I tell them that the soldier I gave them to is very thankful for them. Dad said in his last letter that he was sending Rod & I both a parcel, but so far it has not arrived; it may have gone down in that boat which carried our mails; we we lucky that it was only a small mail for us, only four hundred bags for the Australians, but a big mail for others. At present we are indulging in a quite spell, for our boys are not supposed to fire a shot at "Abdul", who thinks that we are evacuating this part. We have been expecting an attack all this week but will keenly await it, as we are out to butcher all the "Turks". I was in a very hot place yesterday as I was taking note on explosives at the bomb factory, when a howitzer shell came whining close to me; I did not feel to comfortable at that spot, for if it would have dropped into them, I would have taken a flight without wings or engine. Coming back again I was annoyed by some seventy-fives which came too close for me; even when I was back on my verandah, one came & killed two of our machine gunners (Corporal & sergeant) & wounded three.
